Françoise Dugourd-Caput, born in 1954, is a painter in the Basque Country and signs her works under the name of FRANCA. A self-taught artist, she perfected her skills under teachers of the School of Fine Arts, and initially practiced the figurative style. Yet this tireless and curious researcher quickly identified with the essential nature of lyrical abstraction over the course of regional exhibitions and salons. As an informed pedagogue, this excellent drawer is not afraid of showing the “step-by-step” progress of her works, or of expressing herself through various techniques, ranging from the simple drawn line to digital images via watercolours and the matchless oil-painting. The daring FRANCA masters the implacable and faithful reality inherent to the portrait, which she watercolours with talent, as she does for an appealing and precise animal portrait. Yet it is when creating with oil and computers on different supports that the artist appears to express herself with the most freedom, becoming absorbed in the elegant and dynamic momentum of an abstract work. To these works, however, she decides to introduce a poetic touch of realism, enabling her creations to express a bold and captivating surrealism. And this is controlled by the conciseness of the colours in correlation with the bravery of the composition, with its mysterious yet very personal and expressive swirls. FRANCA represents exemplarity in creation. Solidly anchored in the skills she has acquired, the artist is capable of overturning customs, thereby asserting herself in her unprecedented and endearing vision of painting. Although contemporary in its audacity, her style communicates references of quality and uncontestable worth.
