Even while calling himself “A painter after the decimal point”, Régi Bouffay from Elbeuf was a pupil of the late Pierre Gautiez. This justifies the quality of his work as a publicist and teacher, as well as his brilliance in the techniques of watercolour, oil, and acrylic, and in works ranging from the meticulous on-site composition to the powerful commercial billboard or fresco. The diversity of this artist is remarkable; whether in the open air or in his studio, he displays his passion and talent always with the same eye to convey authenticity and his personality whatever the weather, climate or circumstances. Régis Bouffay’s confidence is really surprising, hence the daring perspectives in his various on-site sketches and also his portraits, in which he offords his models a life without equal, serving as a precious reflection of the dynamic artist. But do not be mistaken: his boldness is only equal to his know-how and, whether painting an imaginary world or a portrait, he is the exemplary artist, unceasingly capturing a glossy aesthetic coupled with his magisterial knowledge of light effects. Nothing escapes his understanding of a reality which he analyses, encapsulating its nuances and picturesque quality thanks to his astonishing perception, where self-control is as much at play as his dexterity towards the work.
