Criticism
Over the course of numerous Parisian, French and foreign exhibitions, and pertinent articles in the specialised press, including dear Pierre Imbourg’s “L'Amateur d'Art”, pastel painter Georges Ploquin follows in the great and convincing tradition of those post-war artists who, come hell or high water, have resisted juicy fashions and maintained and preserved a renewed, poetic and captivating figurative style. And this, the artist has done with talent for over half a century, being an expert in art and a genuine creator in his workshop, and also thanks to his meditative instinct, which he conveys according to his reflections and the impact that sceneries and beings unleash within him.
In his works, everything is quivering with charm, eloquence, and evocation. He establishes serenity within them through his formal research into light and colours, which are the fruits of a subdued yet irresistible power. That which is wondrous would become habitual thanks to Georges Ploquin’s sensitivity, yet this in no way prevents him from relying on the rigour of the composition and the vitality of the anecdote. Magnifying thought by means of reality is not an easy task and the artist tackles it brilliantly, even while maintaining the values of movement in a fluid yet inexorable composition. This shows the extent of the artist’s skill, which recreates a world of luminous legend.
