Criticism
I like sculpture a lot. That which is contemporary and monumental charms me when it is well executed and triggers thought and respect for work well done. Yet the discipline which stems from traditions and patiently taught and perfected secular techniques does not leave me indifferent; far from it. Fashions and trends leave me as cold as polished marble. But talented artists who have come from drawing or modelling appeal to me for their humanity. And this is the case with Monique Ori, and with her works, which are full of emotion and appeal. They are a feast for the eyes, mind and feelings, and there lies their essence, right through to their supreme conclusion in bronze.
Passionate about drawing and painting, Monique Ori discovered modelling in lessons, where she then honed her technique to still better define her vision of the human. Beginning with drawings that are full of life, her terracottas preserve the model’s precise expressions. With her hands, she exalts feelings, perceives fortunes and dramas and is able to convey the value of an undeniable connection between material and herself, one which is steeped in creative happiness.
Thus with brilliance and precision, Monique Ori reveals her successive visions of the being, which is marked either by life or magnified by an expressive and beneficial felicity. And her numerous awards and successes over regional exhibitions completely confirm her vocation and perspicacity of grace.
