Criticism
You simply cannot fail to become a talented artist when, as a child, you are fascinated by the paintings and wood sculptures of your grandfather and father respectively. Anne Fioux, known as Fibea, brilliantly demonstrates this by having become an exceptional creator. She followed her familial instinct, individualising her artistic vocation by associating her skills as a watercolourist and pastellist on supports such as fine wood. The varying and at times imposing formats reveal original curves, through which she unleashes her creative impetus.
It was following a period of oil painting that Anne Fioux devoted herself to watercolours and pastels, associating the two techniques to better reflect her personality, which seeks light and charm. Against flowing and wavy backgrounds, she defines fine monochromes that highlight the very essence of her subjects. Pretty liberated nudes, with their secretive sensuality and studied poses can be seen beneath bright, dynamic washes. The resulting mysterious, fairylike atmosphere complements the discreetly fascinating bodies with their pure lines which quiver under the artist’s well-established skill and soft colours.
Fibea’s floral compositions are no less endearing thanks to their sumptuous expression. They are enhanced by the singular combining of explicit backgrounds with a poetic quality which is perceived and carefully expressed by the artist. Fibea therefore reveals and establishes herself as a creator who is full of vigour yet mindful of moderation and the relationship between painter and matter. The result is a masterful and generous artist whose works cannot fail to appeal and quite simply win over the observer. And this is a considerable achievement.
