Michel Le Déroff is the first to refer to himself as an amateur and self-taught artist. Well, as a self-taught artist, he produces very effective artwork and his pieces do not make a half-hearted impact, but instead reveal his undoubtedly inherent and absolutely remarkable talent. As for being an amateur, I am grateful to him for employing the term in its original definition: someone who loves! And Michel Le Déroff is certainly a case in point, having been accredited with numerous awards throughout his artistic career. He has a surprising and very attractive way of rendering a picturesque village street or a few washed-up boats, doing so with a great sense of balance. Yet it is in his application of colour that Michel Le Déroff’s originality shines through, and in his scrupulous ability to bring a subject to life in a swathe of amber, light and colour, using his magnificent and masterful brushstroke to convey his uncommon vision of space. With his contemporary approach, he thus transforms fulfilled reality and confers certain well-worn themes with not only a new authenticity, but also the exceptional vitality and atmosphere that are the mark of his talent.
